Fantastic information, fantastic read. Great information, I highly recommend this to any photographer or aspiring photographer, it will open your eyes.
Nice book, nice pictures, but this is not a book on how-to. Go to the bookstore and look at it first.
Instead of moaning and groaning about having to work I grabbed a slice of pizza from Pizza my Heart, and started my quest on my lunch hour. No joke. This really helps readers like myself who have not yet been exposed to the professional side of photography but are pining to get their toes wet. It is so inspiring to read. Today I had to work but it was a prefect day for a project that I had been longing to start. There are simple words of wisdom in the coroner of the page (words like; use your camera), then there is text that explains the reason for the words of wisdom, on the opposing page there is a photograph driving the concept home. The book uses a very easy to follow and retain format.
This book is also loaded with industry related terms. The terms are defined at the bottom of the pages that use them. I am only half way through this book and so far it has made me laugh, cry, ooh and awe. I took a community college course for that. What has improved is my attitude and outlook. Take for example today. Again it is must have for any serous photography enthusiast. However, those who take the time to read it and not just look at the photos will acquire a wealth of information and inspiration.
It is a must have for any serious photography enthusiast. It was an absolutely wonderful feeling. I started reading The Moment it Clicks yesterday and I have already taken some great photographs as a result. I cannot say that my technical skills have improved. I have to admit that this book is not laden with pretty pictures and this could disappoint some.
I love this book. It's stuffed with practical information and lots of fascinating and funny stories about the author's encounters with the famous and the infamous as he struggles to get just the right shot. This book should be required reading for aspiring photojournalists. You can also get this book online at the Safari database, check your local library for information.
Joe's a great storyteller which leads me into the negative factor of the book: it's entertaining but won't cover the nitty gritty of getting the shots shown. He's worked in over 50 countries and has the portfolio and talent to highlight it in roughly 225 pages. The book itself is broken down into four main chapters and includes a handy lighting tips, gear (wow, what an investment). The moment it clicks: Photography secrets from one of the world's top shootersJoe McNally Joe McNally's work is world-renowned and many of the photos in this book will familiar to its readers. The photographer assumes that his readers know a lot about photography and his tips, while educational and relevant, leave a lot of details out. and glossary guide at the end. As well, the Barroom chapter provides amusing anecdotes that those in the photography world can relate to. I think that the tip is there more to inspire and motivate rather than try and emulate. Part coffee table, part instructional reference book, I would recommend purchasing this book for either its aesthetic, story-telling quality, or for an advanced photographer that will certainly know where to pick up from where the tip leaves off.To recap: a gorgeous book and well worth having on the shelf for those excellent tips and stories.
